Practice Experience
Mr. Charter is an associate in the dispute resolution practice group. He has more than two years’ post qualification experience in dispute resolution matters (both international arbitration and litigation) involving project finance, company law, oil and gas, joint venture and shareholders’ disputes, and other general commercial litigation matters.
Matters in which Mr. Charter has been involved include:
Representing an oil major in respect of an alleged off specification gasoline sales contract in the High Court of England & Wales.
Representing an offshore subcontractor in ad hoc arbitration in a contractual dispute following the sub sea installation of an FPSO offshore in South Africa.
Four month secondment to the Upstream Legal Department of an oil major’s UK head office, assisting with a major internal corporate restructuring project and environmental waste project as well as advising on a number of pipeline crossing agreements, novations, trust deeds and disputes.
Assisting with a variety of non-contentious/advisory work including the review and drafting of a number of arbitration clauses.
Representing an oil major in ad hoc arbitration in respect of a dispute arising from international supply contracts in West Africa.
Advising a multinational petrochemicals and mineral exploration company following a contractual dispute over the supply of iron ore with an Indonesian mining company.
Advising a major Hong Kong ship owning company in a commission dispute in the Hong Kong High Court.
Mr. Charter has completed the examination stages in preparation for gaining his Higher Rights of Audience in England & Wales.
Prior to joining White & Case in March 2008 as an associate, Mr. Charter trained with an international law firm in London, Greece and Singapore and was an assistant solicitor with the Hong Kong office of a leading London-based law firm.
