Sharon Hartline, Chris Wells Named Among the 25 Most Influential People in Asian Hedge Funds
October 2010, AsianInvestor
White & Case partners Sharon Hartline (Hong Kong) and Chris Wells (Tokyo) have been named to business magazine AsianInvestor's list of "The 25 Most Influential People in Asian Hedge Funds.”" They are the only two lawyers included on the list.
With Hartline's selection, AsianInvestor stated that, "It is her grasp of matters concerning the legal technicalities when Hong Kong hedge funds managers seek to establish hedge funds that gives her influence in the industry." Contributing to "her high public profile" is her "openness" to "educating the local world about the nuts and bolts of setting up hedge funds and tackling regulatory issues."
In selecting Wells, AsianInvestor wrote that he "has his finger on the pulse of everything that is going on in Japanese hedge funds." The magazine also noted that, "His area of focus at present is the establishment, operation and registration/licensing of investment funds and other fund related investment intermediaries." Wells is the chairman of AIMA, Japan.
According to AsianInvestor, its list is a catalogue of the people who have delivered a narrative on the Asian hedge-fund industry as it has evolved. It includes the patriarchs of the industry, the spokesmen and oracles, and the hedge-fund managers who are in the vanguard of taking the industry forward and being the kind of managers that people want to emulate and follow.
