White & Case Arbitration Wins Accolades

The arbitration award in Plama Consortium Limited v. Republic of Bulgaria (ICSID Case No. ARB/03/24) rendered on August 27, 2008, was named the "Best Award of 2008" and the "Most Surprising Award of 2008" in a survey of arbitration lawyers organized by the discussion forum OGEMID. White & Case achieved a total victory for Bulgaria, including the dismissal of the claimant's US$ 300 million claims in their entirety, and an order that the claimant pay legal costs. It was the first arbitration to proceed to the merits under the Energy Charter Treaty at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. The accolades were reported by Global Arbitration Review on January 19, 2009.
