White & Case's Stolt-Nielsen Victory Honored by the National Law Journal's Prestigious "Winning" Feature
June 24, 2008, National Law Journal

White & Case's victory for Stolt-Nielsen was one of only ten cases selected for The National Law Journal's prestigious "Winning" feature in 2008.  The Firm's team of lawyers, led by J. Mark Gidley and Christopher Curran (Washington, DC), obtained a decisive victory over the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division when the federal antitrust indictment against Stolt-Nielsen was dismissed after a month-long trial.  The victory was the result of a truly global team effort involving scores of White & Case lawyers, including partners George L. Paul, Peter J. Carney and Eric Grannon, counsel Eileen Cole, Jaime M. Crowe, Albie Lau (Washington DC), and Marty Toto (New York).  This precedent-setting case was the first to involve the enforcement of a written promise not to prosecute under the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division's amnesty program, and for that matter, the enforcement of an antitrust amnesty promise anywhere in the world.  The full National Law Journal feature can be viewed here.

The events leading to, and during, the trial were also described in a feature article that appeared in the July 2008 issue of Corporate Counsel, available here.
