Pro Bono Work Distinguishes White & Case Internationally
October 19, 2009, America.gov

White & Case has been selected as a finalist in the US Secretary of State's "2009 Award for Corporate Excellence." The Firm is one of the 11 finalists – and the only law firm – to be selected for the prestigious award, which recognizes the important role US businesses play in advancing good corporate citizenship globally. The US firm finalists were chosen from 42 nominations submitted by American ambassadors around the world.

White & Case's Russia office was nominated for its exceptional work on the rule of law and the following pro bono activities:
  • As a leading partner in creating the Russian Pro Bono Legal Clearinghouse that helps Russian non-governmental organizations navigate the increasingly challenging legal environment governing their work.
  • For helping to launch "A Chance to Work," a project to integrate orphans and marginalized youth into society through work placement services.
  • Investing in bringing along a generation of Russian lawyers grounded in the rule of law and familiar with international practices.
  • For sponsoring the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court competition in Russia since 2002. In seven years, the Moscow competition has grown from 14 to 45 participating teams, making it the largest national Jessup competition in the world.
  • As the official global partner of the Jessup competition, White & Case sponsors competitions in nine countries and facilitates travel to the international competition in Washington for more than a dozen teams that otherwise could not afford to attend.
