Our Brussels office opened in 1967, and it is home to our European Law practice and our experienced team of Belgian lawyers who advise on corporate, commercial and financial law.
The Brussels European Union (EU) law practice is well-versed in competition law and State aid, European Court litigation, international trade and customs. Other areas of advice include environmental law, employment law and data protection. We have a strong group of experienced litigators who have argued many cases before the European Courts. We are particularly experienced in advising clients in certain market sectors, notably pharmaceuticals, information technology, electrical and electronic goods, paper and pulp, telecommunications/satellites, energy and financial services. Clients of the practice include not only leading multinationals, but also sovereign states and trade associations.
Our EU lawyers come from many EU Member States and third countries, and work closely with their colleagues in our other offices and practices to provide comprehensive assistance and advice on all matters involving the law and policy of the European Union.
We were the first law firm in Brussels to develop a comprehensive EU public affairs practice, which works to achieve a comfortable legal and regulatory environment for our clients. Our public affairs advisers assist clients by monitoring, lobbying and intervening in EU legislative and policy developments, through contacts with EU decision-makers, especially in the European Parliament and with officials in the Member States.
Our corporate and finance law practice advises businesses and financial institutions in and outside Belgium on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate transactions and joint ventures, financial and capital markets transactions, banking, real estate, dispute resolution, labour, projects, insolvency and restructuring, as well as general corporate law. All members of the corporate and finance practice speak English, French and Dutch fluently. All have a thorough experience of Anglo-Saxon legal structures, with many having previously practiced in London or New York.
As part of an integrated team of legal professionals that spans 25 countries, we bring global breadth and local depth to bear on our clients’ most exciting opportunities and difficult challenges.
