Fact: Just about every law student will say that pro bono is one of the most important aspects of law in which to be involved. At White & Case, we give you ample opportunity to prove your commitment through lots of hands-on experience.
Pro bono is the centerpiece of our social responsibility initiative, which also includes legal education projects (we are the lead sponsor of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition), volunteerism, charitable contributions and our Green Initiative. You can read more about all these activities, including an in-depth look at our pro bono work, in our 2009 Social Responsibility Review posted on this page.
We're so serious about the importance of pro bono that we actually require all summer associates and first-year associates to do pro bono work. But, far from playing a bit part in a project, you'll have the opportunity to play a leading role–from organizing and running internal and external meetings, to making court appearances (perhaps through our Juvenile Immigration Court Docket), to working on complex cross-border transactions (perhaps for Acumen Fund or Women's World Banking, or on a debt-for-nature swap for Conservation International), and more.
Pro bono is also part and parcel of
our diversity focus. Many, if not most, of the cases we work on involve empowering women, handling minority issues, helping children or protecting the rights of immigrants. Beyond that, with few exceptions we don't limit what opportunity you can explore—if you're committed to a cause you have the freedom to pursue it.
To make pro bono more accessible, pro bono hours are included in your billable time–that's how we back your commitment with ours.
