Practice Experience
Christopher Wong is an associate in the London Construction & Engineering Practice with considerable experience in construction, engineering and infrastructure matters.

He has advised on a wide range of major construction projects at each stage from tender, contract negotiation and preparation through to the resolution of construction disputes via litigation, arbitration and mediation.

Christopher is qualified to practise in Australia, England & Wales and Singapore and has worked on projects across the world with a focus on Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. He is an accredited mediator and a qualified arbitrator.

Prior to joining White & Case in 2007, he was a senior associate at a major Australian firm, where he worked in both their Sydney and Perth offices.

Christopher has advised contractors, developers, lenders, Government agencies and consultants across the power, oil and gas, metals and mining, commercial property and infrastructure sectors.

Project Development
  • Acting for owner consortium on a suite of contracts in relation to a landmark project comprising two off-shore natural gas pipelines of 1220 kilometres linking Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea and aimed at transporting up to 55 billion cubic metres of gas each year. The project was awarded European Gas Deal of the Year 2009 by Project Finance International, European Midstream Oil & Gas Deal of the Year 2010 by Project Finance Magazine and Deal of the Year 2010 by Global Trade Review.
  • Acting for lenders in connection with the due diligence of construction contracts relating to the refurbishment and expansion of the Hajj Terminal project at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project was recognized as "Islamic Infrastructure Deal of the Year" by Project Finance Magazine 2007 and was awarded the "Airport Finance Law award 2008" by Jane's Transport Finance.
  • Acting for mandated lead arrangers in the due diligence of the Paris-Sorbonne University PPP project in Abu Dhabi. This project was awarded the "Middle East PPP Deal of the Year 2008" by Euromoney's Project Finance Magazine and the "Project Finance Deal of the Year 2009" by IFLR.
  • Acting for government owned power and electricity authority in a landmark nuclear power program of in South Africa, including acting as team leader in the preparation of tender documents, EPC Contract, Fuel Fabrication and Supply Contract and Early Works Agreement for a 3,000-3,500MWe power plant.
  • Acting for owner on a due diligence of a suite of contracts (EPCs, EPCM and PMC) relating to one of the world's largest integrated copper mine, power and infrastructure projects in Mongolia.
  • Acting for principal in the review of construction arrangements relating to the first PPP healthcare project in Sweden and one of the world's largest PPP hospital projects.
  • Acting for a leading solar technology company on a contract relating to the construction and operation of a concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) solar plant in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
  • Acting for lenders in the due diligence of a PPP project relating to the Zayed University campus in Abu Dhabi, which was awarded "Middle Eastern PPP Deal of the Year 2009" by Project Finance International.
  • Acting for owner in relation to the tender procurement, contract preparation, pre-qualification and evaluation of bidders for the replacement of existing nuclear power plants in Switzerland.
  • Acting for principal in relation to a suite of EPCM and EPC contracts on a major integrated mine, refinery, smelter and power project in Az Zabirah and Ras Az Zawr, Saudi Arabia.
  • Acting for principal in an EPCM contract negotiation for a gas processing plant and reconstruction of a compressor station in Noyabrsk, Russia.
  • Acting for principal in the preparation and successful negotiation of a landmark EPC turnkey contract for a 900 MW natural gas fired, combined cycle power plant in Bandirma, Turkey.
  • Acting for contractor on the negotiation of a JCT-based EPC contract relating to an integrated 450 MW coal-fired power plant, coal mine and infrastructure project in Botswana.
  • Acting for principal in the successful negotiation of a FIDIC-based EPC turnkey contract in relation to the construction of a 450 MW coal-fired thermal power plant in Tufanbeyli, Turkey.
  • Acting for owner in the negotiation and preparation of a bespoke EPC contract for a diammonium phosphate fertilizer plant in Morocco.
  • Acting for sponsors in relation to the construction of a major LNG facility, including facilities for liquefied butane and propane extraction, segregation, treatment and marine facilities, in Nigeria.
  • Acting for contractor in relation to the negotiation of amendments to an EPIC supply contract for gas recovery modules to a field gas utilization project in Libya.
  • Acting for underwriter on a due diligence of a suite of contracts for a prominent Turkish company on hydro-power, commercial property and airport projects in Turkey and the Middle East.

Dispute Resolution
  • Acting in a complex litigation involving German proceedings and substantive law and NSW procedural law in relation to a landmark Hong Kong pipeline crossing project.
  • Acting for a New South Wales government body in a multi-million dollar dispute relating to the construction of the Liverpool-Parramatta Transitway project in New South Wales.
  • Acting for owner in contract administration and dispute management claims relating to an ammonia fertilizer complex in Arzew, Algeria.
  • Acting for the pipeline contractor in a complex arbitration on a major Tasmanian gas pipeline project.
  • Acting for the joint venture builder on a high profile railway project linking north and south Perth on multi-level disputes between the principal, contractor and numerous subcontractors.
  • Acting in a technically complex dispute on a bulk liquids berth, access corridor and cargo wharf upgrade project in Port Dampier, Western Australia.
