Practice Experience
Christopher Wells has worked as a lawyer in Japan since 1983, concentrating in financing and banking transactions, including cross-border securities offers, credit financings and syndications, equipment financings and securitization transactions.

Mr. Wells' practice currently focuses on the establishment, operation, registration and licensing of investment funds and fund-related investment intermediaries in Japan (including banks, securities companies, asset managers, investment trust management companies and moneylenders).

Mr. Wells also assists multinational financial groups generally with issues related to regulatory compliance and license qualification matters in Japan. Mr. Wells' corporate experience includes representations in connection with the formation and subsequent operation of numerous multijurisdictional joint ventures and other investments in Japan.

Mr. Wells is currently chair of The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), Japan. He was also the chair or co-chair of the Financial Services Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan from 1998 to 2007. In that capacity he coordinated the activities of various subcommittees covering the securities, banking and finance, investment management, insurance, private equity, real estate finance, pension and securitization and ratings industries in Japan.

Mr. Wells is also a top-tier ranked lawyer, with Chambers Asia 2010 naming him as a Band 1 leading individual for Investment Funds: Foreign and Banking & Finance: Regulatory. He is named one of the "most influential people in Asian hedge funds" by AsianInvestor magazine (2010).
