Practice Experience
Mr. Joyce’s practice covers a broad range of finance matters, with a particular focus on the representation of lenders, sponsors and borrowers in domestic and international leveraged finance transactions and a wide variety of workout and restructuring transactions. He has experience representing lenders and borrowers involving a wide range of industries, with a particular emphasis on the shipping and offshore industry.

Examples of recent transactions Mr. Joyce has advised on include lender side representations of
  • Nordea Bank in connection with financings for General Maritime Corporation, NCL Corporation, Atwood Oceanics, Veritable Maritime Holdings, LLC, Delphin Shipping, LLC, Trico Marine, Inc., Scorpion Offshore Ltd., Chembulk Tankers LLC and Todco;
  • DnB in connection with financings for Overseas Shipping Group Inc.;
  • Deutsche Bank in connection with financings for Ameristar Casinos, Inc., Edwards Limited, Nuveen Investments, Inc., Toys ‘R Us and Mercury Payment Systems, LLC; and
  • Morgan Stanley in connection with financings for Walter Energy, Inc. and API Technologies Corp.

His recent borrower side representations include acting for priceline.com, Hess Corporation, Kansas City Southern, Atlantic Power, Calpine, various portfolio companies of Quad C Management and various investment funds managed by Starwood Capital Group.

On the restructuring/Chapter 11 front, he has represented the lenders in the General Maritime Corporation, Torm A/S, Trico Marine, and Aleris International matters, Major League Baseball in connection with the debtor-in-possession financing for the LA Dodgers, Generation Brands and Global Power Equipment Group Inc. as borrowers in connection with their restructuring and Chapter 11 proceedings and Stolt-Nielsen as borrower in connection with its restructuring.

Mr. Joyce joined White & Case in 1981 and was named a partner in 1989. Mr. Joyce has been a resident in the Warsaw (1995 – 1997) and Istanbul (1990 – 1992) offices.
