Practice Experience
Evgenia Laurson is a partner in the Energy, Infrastructure, Project and Asset Finance Group in Moscow.
She worked in the London office of White & Case until 2008, when she moved to the Firm's Moscow office. Evgenia's practice focuses on project and other structured finance transactions, and she also has considerable experience advising clients on mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. Her experience covers a range of sectors with an emphasis on the oil and gas and metals and mining industries.
Representative transactions include:
Representation, as common counsel, of the export credit agencies, the multi-lateral lenders and the commercial bank lenders in connection with the US$20 billion financing of the Sakhalin II (Phase 2) integrated oil & gas project in Russia;
Advising a borrower in connection with the US$1.5 billion financing of a portfolio of power generation assets in Turkey;
Advising Rio Tinto Alcan in connection with the development of the proposed US$3 billion Coega Aluminium smelter in South Africa;
Advised BNP Paribas on its $500 million refinancing of the construction of the RUSAL Khakas aluminium smelter - the first aluminium production facility to be built in Russia in the past 20 years and the longest tenor project financing in Russia to date;
Representation of Kazakhmys Plc on its US$260 million offer to purchase all of the issued and outstanding shares of Eurasia Gold, a TSE-listed Canadian gold mining company with assets in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan;
Advised Gold Fields on the development and financing of the US$340 million Cerro Corona gold/copper project in Peru. This project was awarded
"Latin American Mining Deal of the Year 2006"

Advised international financial institutions in connection with several financings of Galnaftogaz in Ukraine;
Advised Anglo American Platinum Corporation in relation to its exploration and development joint venture in Russia;
Represented Sohar Aluminium Company LLC, sponsored by Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C., the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority and Alcan Inc., in connection with the development and financing of the construction of a $2.4 billion aluminium smelter complex in Oman. This project was awarded
"EMEA Manufacturing Deal of the Year 2005"

Advised Standard Bank in connection with a proposed project financing of a gold mine in Russia;
Advised the lead arrangers, ANZ Investment Bank on its US$31 million bridge and US$100 million project financing of the Chinguetti oilfield in Mauritania - the first ever limited recourse financing in Mauritania; and
Advised Wheaton River Minerals in connection with a US$300 million bridge facility.
