White & Case acted as legal adviser on Project Finance Magazine's 'Global Deal of the Year 2011' – the publication's top-tier award – presented to the Barzan Gas Project.
The accolade was awarded in recognition of the outstanding achievement that the Barzan Gas Project represented in challenging market conditions and was presented at a ceremony in London. The award is only given to exceptional deals and was last presented in 2005.
"This complex transaction showcases our oil and gas project financing expertise," said Philip Stopford, head of White & Case's WEMEA Project and Infrastructure Finance Group. "Qatar is an attractive prospect for investors given the abundance of natural resources, combined with the region's sustained strong economic growth."
The Barzan Gas Project was the largest project finance deal to close in 2011 and the largest single financing project ever undertaken in Qatar. Its development will supply the country's growing domestic energy demands. The project was also awarded 'Middle East Oil & Gas Deal of the Year 2011' by the magazine and last month collected the '2011 Middle East Oil & Gas Deal of the Year' award from Project Finance International magazine.
