Practice Experience
Jaroslav Fenyk is one of the Czech Republic's foremost authorities on criminal law and procedure, white collar crime and international judicial cooperation in criminal matters.
From 1999 to 2006, he held the No. 2 position in the Czech public prosecutor administration, First Deputy Supreme Public Prosecutor of the Czech Republic. In this role, Mr. Fenyk directed the formation and establishment of relationships with EC institutions and adopted a new organizational structure for the public prosecutor administration. His duties included the supervision of the Department of International Judicial Co-operation and the Department of Serious Economic and Financial Crime.
Mr. Fenyk lectures extensively on criminal law and procedure (corruption, ethics, economic and financial crime, trial advocacy, international co-operation in criminal matters, money laundering, freezing of assets) at the Council of Europe, the Justice Academy of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Audit Office, the US Embassy in Prague and the Department of Justice in Washington D.C.
He has been an active member of various international research teams, including the Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, the University of London, the Academy of European Law and the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Law. Among the topics of his research were the fight against corruption in the public and private sphere, economic and financial crime, money laundering, white collar crime, cross-border crime, and whistleblowing.
Currently, in addition to serving as counsel for White & Case, Mr. Fenyk is an Associated Professor of Law for both Charles University, Prague and Masaryk University, Brno; and Vice-dean of Bratislava's Law School. He is also a University Private Professor at Miskolc University, Budapest, and an external lecturer for the John Marshall Law School, Chicago.
Mr. Fenyk has co-authored a number of university textbooks and is the author of numerous scholarly works and articles in Czech and European legal publications. He has also spoken at more than 50 international conferences, seminars, roundtables, and colloquia.
