Practice Experience
Kairat Baizakov joined the Almaty Office of White & Case in 1996. Prior to joining White & Case, Mr. Baizakov worked as a lawyer for the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Mr. Baizakov also served for several years as a legal advisor at both the Supreme Court and Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Mr. Baizakov’s practice focuses on banking and finance (including project finance), capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Baizakov has advised clients in a number of transactions including:
the Republic of Kazakhstan in its debut issuance of Eurobonds for the amount of US$200 million;
the Republic of Kazakhstan in its second issuance of Eurobonds for the amount of US$350 million;
the Republic of Kazakhstan in its third issuance of Eurobonds (in three tranches) for the amount of US$300 million;
Tengizchevroil in a US$1.1 billion limited recourse bond issue and in a US$3.3 billion pari passu partner loan financing for the expansion of the Tengizchevroil oil project in Kazakhstan with ABN AMRO Bank and Lehman Brothers as Lead Managers;
ABN AMRO Bank and Merrill Lynch in the proposed issuance of Eurobonds by KEGOC, the Kazakhstan national grid;
Deutsche Bank Securities (Kazakhstan) in the issuance of municipal domestic bonds by the Mangistau oblast administration;
Deutsche Bank Securities (Kazakhstan) in the issuance of municipal domestic bonds by the city of Almaty;
Deutsche Bank Securities (Kazakhstan) in the issuance of municipal domestic bonds by the city of Atyrau;
EBRD and IFC in a US$450 million syndicated loan package for upgrading a major Kazakhstan metallurgical concern; and
a Western company in privatizing the Shymkent Oil Refinery.
In addition to his corporate and commercial practice, Mr. Baizakov has assisted clients on a variety of dispute resolution matters, including advice with respect to litigation in Kazakhstan courts.
