Practice Experience
Dr. Giliciński has a broad range of experience in assisting Polish and multinational clients in corporate and financial restructurings, as well as banking and finance matters. In addition, his core areas of expertise also include intellectual property and private equity.

Before joining White & Case, Dr. Lech Giliciński advised Eastbridge N.V. as lead lawyer with respect to a EUR 73 million asset backed issue by special purpose vehicle Polish Retail Properties Finance plc. This highly structured pioneering transaction was not only the first commercial mortgage backed transaction executed in Poland, but the first Euromarket term securitisation in Poland. The underlying collateral comprises twelve department stores in Poland, located in central areas of the largest Polish cities, the three most valuable being in Warsaw. The transaction was rated by all three rating agencies.

For the past six years he has been coordinating legal services for an international investment bank in relation to debt restructuring of Polish companies. His work includes the coordination of litigation proceedings in Poland and in the US. He was also a principal legal advisor to the Minister of Justice in the process of implementation of the new Law on Insolvency and Restructuring. He is also the World Bank’s country partner in Poland in the area of insolvency whom we recently advised on the to-date application of the Law on Insolvency and Restructuring. Other relevant experience includes advice to Hortex Holding SA on a debt restructuring and contemplated bonds issue and restructuring of bonds issued by Elektrim SA.

The list of clients, which Lech Giliciński has represented, includes Lehman Brothers, Deutsche Bank AG London, Bank of America, BPH S.A., TDA Capital Partners, Shoreview, Mid Europa Partners, DB ZWIRN and Unisys Corporation.

Before joining White & Case, Lech Giliciński was a partner at the Weil Gotshal & Manges Warsaw office, where he was primarily responsible for the bankruptcy and restructuring, banking and finance, and intellectual property practices.

Dr. Lech Giliciński is a member of the Insol Europe and Insol International.

Lech Giliciński holds a Doctor of Laws and Magister Iuris degrees from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, as well as a certificate of studies from Oxford University. He also graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law (LL.M.), where he was a Fulbright scholar. His Ph.D. thesis on "Execution Of Intellectual Property Rights In European Community Law" was published by ABC Publishing House in 1997. It was the first such publication in Poland.

In the new publications Chambers Europe 2007 and Chambers Europe 2007Central and Eastern Europe Dr. Giliciński is recommended in the banking and finance area (Tier 2). According to the publication: "Lech Giliciński is a well-respected lawyer on the Polish scene, though his range stretches beyond the borders of that country, and market sources particularly rate his representation of international clients."

Moreover he is the only lawyer in Poland recommended in the area of Insolvency & Restructuring by The Expert Guide to the World's Leading Business Lawyers 2007 and The Expert Guide to the World's Leading Insolvency & Restructuring Lawyers 2006. Moreover The International Who's Who Legal 2007, in the area Insolvency & Restructuring for the second time in a row recommended Dr. Lech Giliciński as one of the leading Polish lawyers. The latest edition of the IFLR1000 – The Guide to the World's Leading Financial Law Firms recommended Dr. Giliciński as one of leading Polish lawyers in the banking and finance area. Dr. Lech Giliciński for the second time is one of the four Polish lawyers recommended by PLC Which Lawyer?, 2007 in the area of Restructuring and Insolvency. Chambers Client Report: Banking (May 2005) quotes Dr. Giliciński’s client who said: "Lech Giliciński has a good grounding in the law and the ability to be pragmatic in its application. He is creative in structuring and completing a deal, which is important in Poland." Dr. Giliciński is the only lawyer in Poland recommended in the area of Insolvency & Restructuring by the Who's Who Legal – The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2007.
