Practice Experience
Michael Turrini is a partner in the Construction and Engineering Practice in the Abu Dhabi office. Michael undertakes both contentious and non-contentious construction work. He has advised on a multitude of purpose-drafted and standard form construction contracts including EPC, EPCM, design/build and traditional lump sum construct-only contracts.

Michael has provided advice throughout the construction process, advising both employers and contractors during procurement and tendering, pre-contract negotiation, contract administration, and post contract dispute resolution. He has experience with both non-contentious and contentious matters in relation to power, oil and gas, road, waste disposal, rehabilitation of contaminated sites, infrastructure and buildings.

Prior to joining White & Case in 2006, Michael practised construction law for several years in Brisbane, Australia where he was a solicitor with a large international law firm.

Michael's recent experience as lead construction associate includes the following major matters:
  • Representing a leading international Korean contractor on claims and counterclaims worth in excess of US$1 billion in an ICC Arbitration, in Spanish, relating to a US$2 billion oil refinery and onshore pipeline project in Mexico;
  • Representing a major Northern Ireland construction contractor in relation to a breach of EU Procurement Tendering Law by a European Government concerning the award of a £650 million tender for the refurbishment of schools;
  • Representing a major Saudi Arabian company in an ICC arbitration, under Saudi Arabian law, relating to the construction of an international hotel and mixed use development (FIDIC Contract);
  • Representing an owner in relation to the termination of works concerning the construction of a power plant;
  • Representing an owner in relation to a dispute with a contractor concerning the supply of a drilling rig;
  • Representing a European Government in relation to an ICC arbitration concerning the construction of a multi-lane highway (FIDIC Contract);
  • Advising and representing an owner in relation to the recovery of liquidated damages and ensuing dispute with a contractor concerning the construction of a petrochemical plant;
  • Advising consortium member in relation to a consortium dispute concerning the tendering for construction work;
  • Advising a contractor in relation to a Gas Supply Agreement with an African Government;
  • Representing a Government Authority in relation to the awarding of a nuclear power plant project, more specifically in relation to the evaluation of tenderers' bids, contractual negotiations, drafting of a key term document, drafting of an Early Works Agreement, drafting of an EPC Contract and related contractual documentation and Fuel Supply Contract;
  • Representing an owner in negotiations concerning the preparation of a mixed use commercial highrise in Russia;
  • Providing ongoing advice to an international contractor in respect of a major construction pickle-line plant located in NSW, Australia;
  • Representing a major Australian contractor in an arbitration, under Australian law, relating to the construction of power infrastructure;
  • Amending and drafting consultant agreements (bespoke) for Eastern European mixed-use projects;
  • Advising contractor in relation to EPC contract for the construction of mining facilities in Saudi Arabia;
  • Advising a major Egyptian construction company on the contractual arrangements for the construction of a cement plant;
  • Drafting, negotiating for and advising English construction contractors in relation to the construction of facilities for the Ministry of Defence; and
  • Advising English construction contractors in relation to construction contracts for PFI projects.
