US Dumping Cases Fall to Low as Global Ties Cut Protectionism
December 27, 2010, Bloomberg

The number of unfair-trade cases filed by the US fell to three in 2010, which is the lowest total under US trade laws since 1947, according to the Democratic Leadership Council in Washington.

The drop reflects a longer-term trend, according to Scott Lincicome, a lawyer at White & Case LLP in Washington. "Multinational investment has really changed the game," Lincicome said. "In the old days, you had a US industry and a foreign industry, and never the two shall meet. Today, that’s not so clear."

Steelmakers have traditionally been among the most frequent companies to file cases. With some now having international ties, it’s "a tremendous disincentive for domestic firms to support trade-remedy cases," Lincicome said.
