John D. Rue Receives New Jersey Bar Association Service to the Community Award

John D. Rue received the 2008 Young Lawyers Division Service to the Community Award at the New Jersey State Bar Association's Annual Meeting on May 21. The Award is presented to a young lawyer who has devoted substantial time and energy to community-oriented activities such as pro bono work, government service, charity involvement or other public service.

In 2006, Rue attended a CLE program sponsored by the Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ), a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to the indigent of New Jersey, primarily with respect to housing, consumer, family and education law.  Since that time, he has contributed substantial time to representing New Jersey's indigent, specifically focusing on the area of special education matters. Additionally, he has advocated for VLJ's clients within White & Case. As a result, the Firm has donated nearly 1500 pro bono hours to VLJ and its clients in 2007. In 2008, he established a pro bono program with VLJ for White & Case summer associates, for which he acts acted as a supervising attorney.
