Practice Experience
Orsolya Bárdosi is Head of the Tax practice of the Budapest office of White & Case.

Orsolya has more than 12 years of big four accounting firm and international law firm experience as a tax adviser and tax lawyer, working on advancing the interests of multinational businesses in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Her practice focuses on tax optimization and transaction advisory, including international tax structuring in restructurings, mergers & acquisitions. She is also well known for her work in tax disputes and tax litigation. Over the years, she has built a reputation for working with clients to develop and implement uniquely tailored and realistic international and domestic tax planning strategies.

Her recent, significant experience includes advising:
  • A large private equity held real estate group on the acquisition of its Hungarian investment portfolio consisting of seven large office buildings in 2011-2012;
  • A large US headquartered multinational with respect to the tax issues during the closing down of its Hungarian branch office in 2012;
  • A Belgium-based food retail giant in connection with the sale of its Hungarian businesses and assets in 2011-2012;
  • A leading private equity group in connection with its successful exit from Central Europe's largest transportation and logistics company in 2011;
  • One of the leading telecommunications service providers in Hungary in connection with its bolt-on acquisition of the fourth largest cable operator in Hungary in an auction sale conducted by the cable operator’s owner and its creditors, along with a simultaneous asset sale to the leading provider of cable television, broadband internet and voice services in Europe. The transaction involved a significant amount of debt restructuring work where Orsolya and her team have played a crucial role, and this deal was the second largest telecommunications transaction in Hungary in 2010;
  • A leading French based global oil and gas company on (i) the post-merger structuring and integration of the Hungarian subsidiaries of the newly merged energy giant in 2009 and (ii) the reorganization of the ownership structure of the DSO entity in 2011;
  • A Canadian developer, specializing in developing landmark architecture worldwide, with respect to the restructuring of its existing real estate portfolio after separation from its US joint venture partner in 2011;
  • A leading venture capital fund active in CEE on (i) tax restructuring in connection with the purchase of an online pharmacy business in 2008, and (ii) setting up a land fund in 2010;
  • One of the leading real estate investors and developers in CEE in its tax litigations in 2011 and 2012;
  • A leading private equity investor active in CEE on structuring its investment and the taxation aspects of its planned biomass investment in Croatia, Hungary, the Slovak Republic and Bulgaria in 2010;
  • The largest global charity organization on taxation matters concerning its Hungarian presence in 2010;
  • The world's largest pharmaceutical company on the taxation-related aspects of its newly designed promotional schemes, and the tax aspects of post-acquisition integration process resulting from the $68 billion acquisition of another major pharmaceutical company in 2010; and
  • The Hungarian subsidiary of an international investment bank on the tax implications of the pre-transaction restructuring and sale of its shares, and related matters in 2011.

Orsolya was previously a member of both Ernst & Young’s and Arthur Andersen’s tax teams. She is a member of the Budapest Bar and is a registered Tax Advisor, certified by the Ministry of Finance.

Orsolya is constantly ranked as a highly recommended lawyer in the area of tax in Hungary by independent benchmarking publications such as Chambers Europe, Legal 500 and PLC Which Lawyer?.
