Practice Experience
Orsolya Bárdosi is head of the Tax Practice of White & Case's Budapest office. She is an experienced tax lawyer, who partners with clients to advance their interests in Central and Eastern Europe. Her established practice has been driven by a combination of notable big four accounting firm experience and a law firm practice record of exceptional client results.

Orsolya offers clients a range of tax guidance focusing on tax optimization and transaction advisory, including international tax structuring, tax due diligence and tax litigation. She has built a reputation for working with clients to develop and implement uniquely tailored and realistic international and domestic tax planning strategies.

Independent industry publications recognize her contributions and say she is "very intelligent, and has great experience." Chambers Europe (2008).

Orsolya's recent, significant experience has included advising: 
  • A leading global oil and gas company on the post-merger structuring and integration from a tax perspective of the Hungarian subsidiaries of the newly merged energy giant; 
  • A leading venture capital fund active in Central and Eastern Europe on tax restructuring in connection with the purchase of an online pharmacy business; 
  • One of the leading real estate investors and developers in Central and Eastern Europe in its recent tax litigation; 
  • A leading private equity investor active in Central and Eastern Europe on structuring its investment and the taxation aspects of its planned biomass investment in Croatia, Hungary and the Slovak Republic; 
  • The largest global charity organization on the taxation matters concerning its Hungarian presence; 
  • The world's largest pharmaceutical company on the taxation-related aspects of its newly designed promotional schemes, and the tax aspects of post-acquisition integration process resulting from the US$68 billion acquisition of another major pharmaceutical company; and 
  • The Hungarian subsidiary of an international investment bank on the tax implications of the pre-transaction restructuring and sale of its shares, and related matters.

Prior to joining White & Case, Orsolya practiced from 2004 to 2008 at another leading international firm, where she was head of the Hungarian tax practice that was ranked top tier by Legal 500 EMEA in 2007 and 2008. Her experience prior to joining White & Case include advising:
  • The leading Dutch telecom service provider, as Hungarian tax counsel for the sale of the Hungarian network operator, to Hungary's number one alternative and second largest fixed-line telecommunications provider; 
  • A major European brewery in negotiating a settlement with the local authorities concerning the assessment of tax interest and penalties over €12 million; 
  • In a precedent-setting court case worth more than €2 million, a privately held leading electric meter manufacturer against the tax authority, defending the business motives of its reorganization; 
  • A leading French hotel group in its claim against the local tax authorities to reclaim local business tax; 
  • The market leader in the canned and frozen vegetable industry in improving the business structure of its Hungarian investment; 
  • A major US-owned international group migrating their intellectual property rights from Hungary to Ireland; 
  • A number of investors on the tax efficient use of their intellectual property rights; 
  • The largest Central European real estate developer on various tax matters including several tax authority proceedings; and 
  • A major insurance company on the VAT aspects of structuring its global Central European insurance activity.
