Practice Experience
Orsolya Szabó is a Romanian and Hungarian qualified associate resident in the Budapest office of White & Case. She joined the firm in May 2005 and is a member of the firm's M&A and Private Equity practice groups.

Orsolya was seconded to White & Case's Bucharest office from March to August of 2008, where she assisted our Romanian team. In Budapest, Orsolya has been a member of our teams advising:
  • the Hungarian Telephone and Cable Corp. (HTCC), Hungary's number one alternative and second largest fixed line telecommunications provider, in its EUR 90.5 million purchase of 95.7% of the outstanding equity in Austrian-based Memorex Telex Communications AG, one of the leading alternative infrastructure providers in Central and Eastern Europe;
  • Benson Elliot in connection with a joint venture with a Hungarian property developer relating to the mixed-use re-development of a building in central Budapest. The development will comprise four stages. Benson Elliot's initial investment in the development was approximately EUR 15 million;
  • Mid Europa Partners and the GMT Communications Funds on all aspects of their investment in Invitel, the second largest fixed-line telecommunications service provider in Hungary, including:
    • in the US$30 million "bolt-on" acquisition of EuroWeb Internet Szolgáltató Rt. and S.C. EuroWeb Romania S.A., the Hungarian and Romanian internet communications subsidiaries of EuroWeb International, the U.S. publicly-traded company;
    • the shareholders in Invitel in the sale of Invitel to Hungarian Telephone & Cable Corp. for a total consideration of EUR 470 million;
  • Mid Europa Partners in connection with its EUR 0.45 billion acquisition of Baltic mobile operator Bité from TDC;
  • AIG Capital Management Ltd., advisor to the EUR 523 million AIG New Europe Fund II, in connection with the Fund’s approximately EUR 45 million investment in SC Digital Cable Systems SA, a leading Romanian cable television and direct-to-home company;
  • the shareholders in Karneval Media s.r.o., the second largest Czech cable television company, including Mid Europa Partners, in the company’s EUR 322.5 million sale to Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan (which concluded an equity derivate agreement to sell the company to Liberty Global);
  • the shareholders of Astral Telecom S.A., Romania’s leading broadband telecommunications operator, including AIG Capital Management Ltd., in one of the largest private M&A transactions ever in Romania: the US$416.5 million sale of Astral to UPC Romania S.A., an indirect subsidiary of Liberty Global, Inc.;
  • AIG-CET Capital Management (Poland) Ltd., advisor to the AIG Global Emerging Markets Fund II, in connection with its US$20 million acquisition of a 30% stake in UTI Group, a conglomerate with four principal business lines: IT and Communications; security and defense; construction and engineering; and facility management;
  • AIG New Europe Fund in connection with its sale of a 20% stake in TriGranit Holdings, Central Europe’s leading commercial real estate development company to vehicles owned by Lord Nathaniel Rothschild and Sándor Csányi;
  • MT-Investor Kft. in connection with its acquisition of Ikarusbus Járműgyártó Rt., a bus manufacturing company, and Ikarus-Trade Kft., a bus trading company, from three subsidiaries of the Fiat/Iveco group);
  • Plaza Centers, a leading commercial real estate developer in Central Europe, in connection with its acquisition of five special purpose vehicles that own a Budapest real estate development commonly known as the "Kerepesi racetrack development";
  • IOG, a real estate private equity fund, in relation to its acquisitions of warehouse developments near Budapest.
