Dr. Fessak received a bachelor's degree in chemistry with honors from Hunter College of the City University of New York. His master's and doctorate degrees in chemistry are from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he studied supramolecular and heterocyclic chemistry. He also received a master's degree in Business Administration, Finance Track, from the State University of New York at Albany.
Dr. Fessak worked as a research chemist at Schenectady International as part of a team developing and optimizing production of alkylphenols. Dr. Fessak joined White & Case in May 2000 and is a Registered US Patent Agent.
Dr. Fessak practices in the field of intellectual property prosecution and assists clients to obtain patents and trademarks in the US and internationally. Dr. Fessak is also experienced with conducting patent and trademark searches, corresponding with domestic and international clients, and handling electronic filings for prosecution documents and assignments/chains of title.
Specifically, Dr. Fessak's patent practice involves patent drafting and prosecution in diverse areas including life sciences, mechanical devices, engineering, and business methods. Dr. Fessak also has experience in patent opinion work, freedom to operate and patentability assessments, and litigation/interference support.
Dr. Fessak's trademark practice involves preparing United States trademark applications for a diverse range of clients, reviewing specimens, preparing affidavits of use and renewals, and corresponding with clients regarding these matters. Dr. Fessak also assists attorneys in preparing responses to Office Actions, and communicates with foreign counsel.
