Overview

A partner in the London Financial Restructuring and Insolvency team, Laura's practice focuses on providing advice to clients in respect of stressed and distressed investments and complex multi-jurisdictional financial restructurings and insolvencies.

Laura advises debtors, issuers, sponsors, financial creditors (including funds and banks), insolvency practitioners and directors of companies, on all aspects of stressed and distressed situations, restructurings and insolvency matters.

Laura's track record and reputation have attracted a varied client base, which is international in scope. Clients to have benefited from her significant knowledge and experience include Kaupthing, New World Resources, Ukreximbank, Wind Hellas and a large variety of distressed investors.

Laura has worked on a number of complex transactions, including advising Deutsche Bank as new money provider on the restructuring of the APCOA Parking Group. The restructuring was implemented through a scheme of arrangement and resulted in a significant deleveraging of APCOA's balance sheet, a reduction in its debt by more than €440 million and €80 million of additional financing. This deal was awarded "IFLR Restructuring Deal of the Year" in 2014.

Laura is a recognized lawyer in the current editions of both Chambers UK and Legal 500 UK.

Her work contributes to the Firm's position as a leader in financial restructuring and insolvency – an area in which White & Case has been ranked the number one team globally by industry magazine The Deal since 2006.

Experience

Kaupthing hf restructuring

Advised Kaupthing in relation to its winding up proceedings, the fifth largest bankruptcy ever.

Ukreximbank and Oschadbank indebtedness

Laura advised Ukreximbank and Oschadbank, both state-owned Ukrainian financial institutions, on the successful reprofiling of their international capital markets indebtedness.

Restructuring of DTEK senior notes

Laura advised the trustee in relation to the restructuring of DTEK's senior notes.  DTEK, the Ukraine's largest privately owned energy group, effected its restructuring by way of an English scheme of arrangement.

APCOA restructuring

Laura advised Deutsche Bank as new money provider, Agent and Security Trustee on the restructuring of the APCOA Parking Group. The restructuring was implemented through a scheme of arrangement and resulted in a significant deleveraging of APCOA's balance sheet, a reduction in its debt by more than €440 million and €80 million of additional financing.

New World Resources (NWR) restructuring

Laura advised NWR on its comprehensive, cross-border balance sheet restructuring, which won “Industrial Goods and Basic Resources Deal of the Year 2014” at M&A Advisor's Turnaround Awards.

The WIND Hellas group's €1.8 billion restructuring

Laura advised the WIND Hellas group, the Greek telecommunications operator, on all aspects of its €1.8 billion restructuring, which was implemented by means of a scheme of arrangement and 'pre-packaged' administrations.

Representation of Weather Investments S.p.A.

Laura advised Weather Investments S.p.A. in the financial restructuring and sale of Wind Hellas.

Representation of KPMG as the administrators of the Edeus Group

Laura advised KPMG as the administrators of the Edeus Group. Her work on this matter included the drafting and negotiation of the business sale agreement and advising on all aspects of the administrators' rights and duties.

The restructuring of Sanitec Oy's €1 billion debt

Laura represented Sanitec Oy on all aspects of the restructuring of its €1 billion debt. Reaching agreement with a large and diverse financial creditor syndicate across multiple jurisdictions within Europe was a highly complex process, and involved an international team drawn from six of the Firm's offices: London, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Paris, Stockholm and Warsaw.
