Practice Experience
Peter focuses on energy and natural resource law and has significant experience in subsoil use rights and environmental regulations. Peter advises clients primarily in the oil & gas and mining and metals sectors. He has been involved in providing advice on aspects of environmental law on a major project financing and also has experience in M&A, joint ventures and other corporate matters.
His recent experience includes:
- Advising, as common counsel, export credit agencies, multilateral lenders and commercial bank lenders in connection with the US$20 billion project financing of the Sakhalin II (Phase 2) LNG Project in Russia (regulatory part);
- Representing the project company on the development and project financing of the Nord Stream Baltic pipeline, which runs from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea and the exclusive economic zones of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany (regulatory part);
- Advising Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, ING Bank and Mirabaud Securities on the US$100 million IPO by Exillon Energy Plc;
- Advising Alstom on a joint venture with Atomenergomash in the nuclear power sector;
- Representing the State Grid Corporation of China in connection with its establishment of a joint venture for the long-term acquisition of electricity from the Russian Federation;
- Advising MOL Plc, the listed Hungarian oil and gas company, on its acquisition of 100 percent of Matyushkinskaya Vertikal, a Russian oil company;
- Advising Hess Corporation in its acquisitions in the Russian oil and gas sector in the Volga-Urals region;
- Advising Oilex N.V. on the acquisition of two Russian oil and gas companies in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia;
- Acting as a special counsel to RUSAL in their multi-billion dollar merger with the SUAL Group and certain alumina and aluminium assets of Glencore International;
- Advising PetroNeft Resources Plc, an international oil and gas E&P company, on its activities in West Siberia, including an equity fundraising, subsequent AIM listing and pipeline construction activities;
- Advising Wintershall in connection with its activities in Russia, including the joint venture with Gazprom and its operations in the Caspian region;
- Advising PhosAgro, one of the largest chemicals producer in Russia, on implementation of Kyoto Protocol in Russia;
- Advising Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC) on its joint venture with Rosneft for the exploration and development of the West Kamchatka offshore field;
- Representing International Power in their proposed bid for a minority stake in TGK-2 from RAO UES; and
- Advising Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Uretim A.S. on the development of an electric power generation plant in Moscow.
