White & Case Acts for Qatar Holding on Strategic Investments
Doha, London, New York,
November 16, 2012 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP has acted for Qatar Holding LLC ("QH"), the direct and strategic investment arm of the Qatar Investment Authority, on two recent transactions including QH's acquisition of a stake in media investment company The Chernin Group ("TGC") and the establishment of an asset management joint venture between QH and Credit Suisse.
White & Case represented QH in the acquisition of a significant equity stake in media and entertainment company TCG, led by Peter Chernin. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. TCG and its investors will work together to invest in, acquire, build, and operate media assets around the world, with a particular focus on the United States and Asia.
In a deal signed on November 6, White & Case represented QH in its joint venture with Credit Suisse on the formation of an asset management company called Aventicum Capital Management. Aventicum will operate out of two centers, including a Doha-based business focused on investment strategies in the Middle East, Turkey, and other frontier markets as well as an international business, based outside of the Middle East. The launch of Aventicum is part of the State of Qatar's strategy to establish Doha as a pre-eminent international financial center.
The deal team on the TCG transaction was led by New York partners William F. Wynne Jr., Ward Atterbury (M&A), John Lillis (Tax), and Stefan Mentzer (IP) and Doha partner Michiel Visser (M&A), with support from New York associates Meredith Beuchaw, Emma Barnett (M&A) and Maryanne O'Connor (Tax) and Doha associate Charbel Abou Charaf (M&A).
White & Case partners Michiel Visser (Doha), Zeeshan Ahmedani (London/Doha) and Andrew Weiler (London) led the transaction with Credit Suisse with New York partners John Lillis, Duane Wall, Ernie Patrikis, Ward Atterbury, Sean O'Malley, and David Johansen.
