White & Case Elects 21 New Partners
New York,
November 30, 2011 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP today announced the promotion of 21 lawyers worldwide to its partnership for 2012. The promotions are effective January 1, 2012 and span eight of the Firm's global practices, with a focus on Mergers & Acquisitions, Capital Markets and Disputes.

Listed by the regions in which they are based, the new partners are:
Americas
- Eugenio Bernal is based in Mexico City and has been named a partner in our Global Commercial Litigation Practice. He is a Mexican- and New York-qualified lawyer who advises clients on litigation, arbitration, restructurings and project finance.
- Eliza McDougall is based in New York and has been named a partner in our Global Banking Practice. Qualified in New York, she represents clients in secured and unsecured lending transactions, both domestic and international, including leveraged and investment grade acquisition financings, general syndicated financings, asset-based financings and project financings.
- Rafael E. Llano Oddone has been named a partner in our Global International Arbitration Practice. Based in Mexico City and qualified in Paraguay and New York, he practices international arbitration and commercial litigation and has served as counsel in several major cases, principally before the International Chamber of Commerce.
- Jennifer Paradise has been named a partner in the General Counsel's Office of the Firm. Qualified in New York, she is Deputy General Counsel. She advises the Firm on professional, personnel, contract and regulatory issues in the Americas and elsewhere.
- James N. Robinson II is based in Miami and has been named a partner in our Global Commercial Litigation Practice. Qualified in Florida, his practice includes litigation in state and federal courts, where he represents banking clients in lender liability and commercial foreclosure lawsuits.
- Gregory M. Starner is based in New York and has been promoted to partner in our Global Commercial Litigation Practice. Qualified in New York and Washington, DC, he has a broad range of experience in complex commercial cases in US federal and state courts and in domestic and international arbitrations.
- Iván Libenson Violante has been named a partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. Based in Mexico City and qualified in Mexico and New York, he counsels clients in the private and public sectors on corporate, securities and financial law, including securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, project finance and corporate debt restructurings.
Europe, Middle East and Africa
- Markus Althoff has been named a partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. A German-qualified lawyer who is based in Hamburg, he focuses on national and international M&A transactions, including private equity, joint ventures and restructurings.
- Markus Burianski has been named a partner in our Global Commercial Litigation Practice. Based in Frankfurt, he is a German-qualified lawyer who advises clients in international dispute resolution, including cross-border litigation and arbitration, with a focus on post-merger and acquisition matters and supply contracts, often in the automotive and electronics industries.
- Melissa Butler is based in London and has been named a partner in our Global Capital Markets Practice. Qualified in New York, she represents public and private issuers and underwriters in offerings in the United States pursuant to Rule 144A, outside the United States pursuant to Regulation S and US Securities and Exchange-registered equity offerings.
- John Cunningham has been named a partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. An English-qualified lawyer, he is based in London, where he has a broad corporate, transactional and equity capital markets practice, including experience in public and private mergers and acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, initial public offerings and secondary offerings.
- Sylvia Fiebig is based in Hamburg and has been named a partner in our Global Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Practice. Qualified in German law, she is frequently appointed insolvency administrator in corporate bankruptcy proceedings, in addition to advising clients on operational and financial restructuring matters.
- Paul Harrison has been named a partner in our Global Project Finance Practice. Currently based in London, he will be relocating to Tokyo. He is an English-qualified lawyer whose practice spans a wide range of project finance and banking transactions, with an emphasis on oil and gas and power project financings.
- Sean Johnson has been named a partner in our Global Capital Markets Practice. He is currently based in London but will be moving to Abu Dhabi. Qualified in California, he has broad international capital markets and securities experience, with expertise in high yield debt offerings and project finance bonds.
- Alexander Kiefner is based in Frankfurt and has been named a partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. A German-qualified lawyer, his practice focuses on all aspects of corporate law, with a focus on the law of stock corporations and affiliated companies, including capital markets law issues.
- Maria Oleinik has been named a partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. Based in Moscow and qualified in Russia, England and New York, she has broad experience advising large corporations in Russia's energy and natural resources sectors on domestic and cross-border transactions.
- Dipen Sabharwal is based in London and has been named a partner in our Global International Arbitration Practice. Qualified in England, India and New York, he has broad experience in international arbitrations, particularly construction, under the International Chamber of Commerce, London Court of International Arbitration, United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and other arbitral regimes.
- Axel P. Schulz has been named a partner in our Global Antitrust Practice. Based in Brussels, and a member of the Munich and Brussels bar, he regularly advises on cartel-related investigations and is particularly experienced in European regulatory issues involving the pharmaceutical industry.
- Michiel Visser has been named a partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. Currently based in Paris, he will be relocating to Doha. He is an English- and New York-qualified lawyer who represents corporate clients, private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds and commercial banks in public and private mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and private equity investments, with a focus on cross-border transactions.
- Julia Walker is an English-qualified lawyer who has been named a partner in the General Counsel's Office of the Firm. As Deputy General Counsel, she is responsible for the Firm's Anti-Money Laundering Program. She advises the Firm on regulatory and professional issues in EMEA and elsewhere, including employment and contract issues.
- Rikard Wikström has been named a partner in our Global International Arbitration Practice. Based in Stockholm and qualified in Sweden, he concentrates on domestic and international commercial arbitrations, focusing on construction disputes. He also acts as counsel in Swedish litigation proceedings.
In the past two years, White & Case has made a significant investment in new partners. So far this year, the Firm has promoted 35 partners and added 24 lateral partners. In 2010, the Firm added a total of 61 new partners through promotions and lateral hiring.
