White & Case Secures Litigation Win for TNK-BP Ltd.

New York,  February 26, 2009 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP successfully represented TNK-BP Ltd., Russia's third largest oil company, in a contract dispute regarding the exploration and production of oil and gas reserves off the coast of Grenada.

On February 19, Judge Evan Wallach, sitting by designation, of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed the suit in its entirety, as well as striking certain portions of the complaint at the request of TNK-BP. The case, RSM Production Corp. v. Fridman, was brought by Jack J. Grynberg and RSM Production Corp. alleging that a group of defendants, including TNK-BP, conspired to block the plaintiffs in obtaining a license to explore Grenada's oil and gas resources.

"We are pleased with the result, and were especially pleased that the court at oral argument went through the complaint point-by-point and gave the plaintiff every opportunity to justify its allegations, and found that they could not," said Owen Pell, partner in White & Case's Commercial Litigation Practice in New York. "Additionally, we are pleased that the court struck certain parts of the complaint as wholly unsupported."
