White & Case Makes Donation to Lawyers Without Borders

New York, April 12, 2007 ... The associates of White & Case presented Lawyers Without Borders (LWOB) with a $15,000 donation at the 2007 Lawyers Conference, "White & Case LLP – Our International Strategy." In lieu of an attendee gift, White & Case associates chose to make a donation to a worthy cause and voted on Lawyers Without Borders.

"This represents a first for us," says Christina Storm, founder and director of LWOB. "We have never before been recognized by those whom we try to serve. Every day White & Case lawyers give us and the world we try to help, their time, energy and incredible intelligence — and now, they donate what was meant to be a recognition of that time, energy and intelligence and give that to us as well."

White & Case has worked with LWOB for more than two years on a pro bono basis. The Firm's New York and London offices have been engaged in various projects in Africa, including work to preserve inheritance rights for girls orphaned by HIV/AIDS and preparation of rights-based outreach materials for those who have been accused of or have fallen victim to crimes. The organization is considered the world’s largest globally oriented group of volunteer lawyers who stand ready to support non-profit organizations, rule of law initiatives, legal capacity building projects and human rights work around the globe.

"Lawyers Without Borders gives our lawyers an opportunity to go beyond their daily legal work and apply their skills to special projects that are rewarding both personally and professionally," says Jim Stillwaggon, White & Case's Pro Bono Director. "These projects benefit people in dire need of humanitarian support and fulfilling that need in a legal capacity is a memorable and humbling experience."
