White & Case Expands Asian Finance and Restructuring Practice
Hong Kong,
May 11, 2009 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP is bolstering its Asian finance and restructuring capabilities with the transfer of London partner Kate Allchurch to Singapore.
Allchurch, who joined White & Case in 2000, is a highly respected bank finance partner with a broad background in all aspects of bank finance. Her areas of expertise include leveraged finance, debt restructurings, debt buy-backs, telecoms finance, and the secondary debt markets.
"This move is part of the Firm's long-standing strategy to create a full-service finance and restructuring Practice in Asia," said Barrye Wall, White & Case partner and regional section head for Asia. "Kate’s arrival broadens the practice in Asia, as well as strengthens our overall finance and restructuring capabilities."
Allchurch's appointment continues the recent expansion of the Firm's core practice areas in Asia, following on from arrivals over the last eight months of Sebastian Buss in Singapore who focuses on asset and project finance; Karen Tang in Shanghai whose focus is real estate and bank finance; Peter Ni, also in Shanghai, who specialises in tax matters; Anna-Marie Slot, based in Hong Kong, who specialises in tender offers, debt buybacks and high yield transactions; and John Shum, a Hong Kong-based partner who specialises in banking and restructuring matters.
Allchurch worked in White & Case’s London office from 2000 to early 2009. Prior to joining the Firm, she was a bank finance partner in the London office of a leading US law firm and also worked at a "magic circle" UK law firm for seven years.
White & Case’s Asia finance and restructuring team has a well-established reputation in the market, advising major international and Asia-based financial institutions and corporates, including Deutsche Bank, GE Commercial Finance, DBS, ING, Standard Chartered and China Development Bank.
The Singapore office is an important hub for the Firm's business in Southeast Asia and South Asia, as well as acting as the principal hub for the Firm’s India practice. The Firm is committed to building its capabilities in Singapore further, following its success as one of only six firms recently awarded a license to practice in Singapore under the country’s Qualified Foreign Law Practice scheme.
White & Case has more than 30 years' experience advising clients doing business across Asia, as well as advising clients from Asia doing business worldwide, and was named "International Deal Firm of the Year" by Asian Legal Business in 2008. Recent transactions acted on by White & Case include advising on the financing for the leveraged buyout of Singapore-based Unisteel Technology Limited; representing the mandated lead arrangers for COSL Norwegian AS in its US$2.5 billion acquisition of Awilco Offshore ASA, the first major cross-border acquisition by a Chinese oil company; and advising TPV Technology Limited, based in Hong Kong, in acquiring the IT display and public signage businesses of Royal Philips Electronics, a transaction that spanned 45 legal jurisdictions.
