White & Case Advises Barclays Global Investors on Naftrac Acquisition
Mexico City,
June 10, 2009 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP represented Barclays Global Investors in its recent purchase of Naftrac, Mexico's largest exchange-traded fund, from government development bank Nacional Financiera.
"The Naftrac acquisition was particularly interesting because it was a combination of an M&A deal, a privatization and a securities transaction," said Vicente Corta, White & Case partner in Mexico City. "The deal was not merely acquiring Naftrac from Nafin but entailed modifying its structure to conform to the operational structure of other Mexican iShares ETFs, for which bondholder and regulatory approval was also required."
Naftrac, which Barclays has renamed iShares Naftrac, was launched in 2002. Since then, it has become one of the most actively traded securities on the Mexican stock exchange, the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores.
In addition to Corta, the White & Case team advising Barclays included associates Narciso Campos Andres Mosqueira and Tanya Quinonez.
