White & Case Earns Top Marks from Human Rights Campaign Foundation
Scores 100 Percent in 2009 Corporate Equality Index

New York, September 3, 2008 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP today announced that it has earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2009 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation that measures commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace issues. 

"White & Case is committed to fostering diversity and an inclusive environment for all of our employees, including those in the LGBT community," said White & Case Chairman Hugh Verrier. "We are pleased to see our commitment recognized by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation."
 
For this year's CEI, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation rated 583 businesses in total. Among the LGBT-related policies and practices evaluated by the survey were nondiscrimination policies, domestic partner benefits and diversity training. 

"We are proud of the strides we have made in recent years in identifying and putting in place policies and programs for recognizing and supporting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lawyers," said White & Case partner and chair of its Diversity Committee Elaine Johnston. "For example, in addition to supporting an active LGBT Affinity Group, we offer written protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation as well as gender identity, and we provide health insurance for domestic partners and wellness benefits for transgender employees."

White & Case's top ranking in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation survey comes on the heels of its impressive showing in the Minority Law Journal's 2008 Diversity Scorecard.  In that study, released in May 2008, White & Case ranked No. 6 overall among the biggest US law firms, with 22.5 percent of its lawyers being people of color.
