White & Case Counsel James Stillwaggon Receives Pro Bono Award from Sanctuary For Families

New York, October, 21 2008 ... James Stillwaggon, White & Case counsel and director of the firm's Pro Bono Legal Services, has been named a recipient of the 2008 Above & Beyond Award from Sanctuary for Families in recognition of his pro bono representation and advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence.  The annual award is given to members of the legal community who have gone "above and beyond" in their work on behalf of Sanctuary's Center for Battered Women's Legal Services.

"Representing women suffering from domestic violence is an important part of White & Case's commitment to our community and I am honored to be recognized by Sanctuary for Families," said Stillwaggon.  "The commitment the organization brings to helping women is outstanding and I am proud to be associated with them."

Sanctuary for Families is dedicated to serving domestic violence victims and their children by providing legal, counseling, job training, shelter and other support services. Pro bono attorneys work closely with Sanctuary's staff attorneys to provide legal advice, assistance, and representation to domestic violence victims in cases involving divorce, child custody/visitation, child and spousal support, immigration matters, and prosecution of batterers in criminal matters.

"As the largest provider of legal services exclusively for victims of domestic violence in the country, Sanctuary for Families relies heavily on our pro bono partners in order to help as many women as we can," said Laurel Eisner, Sanctuary's Executive Director. Stillwaggon will be honored at the 2008 Above & Beyond Pro Bono Awards and Benefit on Monday, October 27 in New York City.  The awards ceremony, hosted by the Sanctuary Associates Committee, will be followed by a silent auction with the proceeds benefiting Sanctuary's Center for Battered Women's Legal Services.
