White & Case Expands Antitrust Practice

New York December 8, 2008 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP today announced the expansion of its global Antitrust/Competition Practice with the addition of partner Joseph Angland in New York.

From 2006 to 2007, Angland served as chair of the American Bar Association's Section of Antitrust Law, the world's largest association of competition lawyers, and previously was editor-in-chief of Antitrust Law Developments, the Section's principal treatise on antitrust law.  He also has served as an advisor to the International Competition Network, the organization of the world's antitrust enforcement agencies.

Angland has tried jury and nonjury cases before federal and state courts and has handled administrative matters before the Federal Trade Commission.  He has also handled the antitrust clearance of major mergers and acquisitions, including Chrysler's merger with Daimler-Benz and Novartis' recent acquisition of a $13 billion interest in Alcon.  He has advised clients across a variety of industries, notably, automotive, banking, communications, computer software, medical equipment, mortgage, petroleum, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.

"Joe will be a tremendous asset to our clients as we continue to expand our worldwide network of competition lawyers," said J. Mark Gidley, chair of White & Case's global Antitrust Practice.  "His extensive bet-the-company trial experience and track record in antitrust law will expand our delivery of the highest-quality counsel to clients facing global competitive issues."

Angland has had a distinguished career as an antitrust lawyer that has spanned more than three decades, including  29 years with Dewey & LeBoeuf (formerly Dewey Ballantine LLP), most recently as co-chair of the firm's Antitrust Practice Group.  He is listed as among the leading antitrust lawyers in the United States in Global Competition Review's Who's Who Legal, Chambers USA, Woodward/White's Best Lawyers in America and by Practical Law Institute.  Angland was named one of Lawdragon's 500 Leading Litigators and one of the top-100 lawyers in New York.
