The Legal Business Global 100
July 2008, Legal Business
White & Case has been ranked #11 in Legal Business's annual survey of the top 100 global law firms. The Firm — described by the survey as "potent" — has also been named a Global Elite firm for a second consecutive year. Our inaugural selection last year made White & Case one of the few firms to break into the 18-firm Global Elite in the last five years.
Global Elite firms must meet three criteria: demonstrate market-leading prowess in two of the three practice areas selected by Legal Business (M&A, finance and disputes); boast a disproportionately high number of relationships with FTSE 100 or Fortune 250 clients; and be regarded as a top competitor in either M&A or finance by firms on both sides of the Atlantic.
The editorial accompanying this year's rankings observed the need for firms to adapt, as clients become increasingly global in their perspective. The underlying theme: the firms that are doing well are those that have diversified themselves, or are in a position to do so. In particular, the largest firms are increasingly seeing global synergies across a number of different practices areas. White & Case is cited for above-average growth rates in both revenues and profits for the last five years, thanks to those synergies.
Hugh Verrier, Chairman of the Firm, noted: "Globalisation...requires us to be in every market that our clients need us in and being in the markets where we can act for the sorts of clients we aspire to serve."
