White & Case Ranked Best For US/UK Capability Again

White & Case was the top-ranked firm among the largest law firms in the UK (more than 100 fee-earners), for Dual US/UK Capability, by the just-released 2008 edition of Legal 500 UK.

The directory, which ranks the leading law firms in the UK with local or international mandates, reported in its overview section:

Reporting a 37% rise in revenue for 2007, White & Case LLP now has over 430 lawyers based in London. These include a 30-partner finance team acting for a range of top financial institutions, as well as highly competitive capability across litigation, capital markets, corporate, restructuring and real estate. The firm has a top-tier project finance practice, and won project finance team of the year at the Legal Business awards, for an impressive string of 'firsts' in the area, and ranks second only to Linklaters LLP in emerging markets, for its work in Russia, the CIS and Africa among other jurisdictions. Arbitration, acquisition finance, and high yield are other areas of strength.

Overall, White & Case was awarded three Tier 1 rankings (vs. three for 2007 edition), seven for Tier 2 (vs. four), and 10 for Tier 3 (vs. eight).

In addition to the Firm's first-tier ranking for Dual US/UK Capability, the Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance team was ranked in Tier 1 for Project Finance, while the Structured Finance practice was recognised with a first-tier ranking for Repackagings. These were multiple consecutive years for each in Tier 1 for both teams.

Seven practice groups improved their rankings this year from their placement in 2007:

• Financial Services (up one to Tier 3): "recommended for enforcement and investigations work….the team is 'entrepreneurial, problem-solving and reliable'"
• M&A–Deals £250M+ (up one to Tier 7): "36 M&A deals in 2007, 11 of which had a value over US$1bn"
• Arbitration (up one to Tier 3): "impressive inroads into the market….the 'outstanding' team…is strong in construction, energy and telecoms disputes"
• Commercial Litigation (up one to Tier 6): "White & Case LLP rises in the ranking this year"
• High-Yield (up one to Tier 2): "new to the second tier this year…its team…continues to benefit from the firm's presence in emerging markets….issuer representation is also a strength"
• Construction (up one to Tier 3): "International powerhouse White & Case LLP has extended its London presence"
• Rail (up one to Tier 3): "White & Case LLP…has a wealth of experience"
