White & Case Takes Top Spot Worldwide in The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration 2009

Thirteen White & Case partners were ranked among The International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration 2009, tying the Firm for the top spot worldwide for most lawyers recognized by the publication, which identified White & Case as a "global player" in the field. In an analysis of the rankings, the publication acknowledged five US lawyers, including New York partner Paul Friedland, head of White & Case's global Arbitration Practice, described as "one of the best the firm has to offer." Other US lawyers cited by the publication were "renowned" Washington, DC, partners Carolyn Lamm and Abby Cohen Smutny, as well as Andrea Menaker and Jonathan Hamilton. Menaker, who joined the Firm earlier this year from her prior position as chief of the NAFTA arbitration division for the US State Department, was described as "spectacular." In Europe, London partners Phillip Capper, who was characterized as a "serious player in the arbitration arena," and John Bellhouse each earned high rankings, as did Claes Zettermarck from Stockholm who is "well-known in the arbitration world." In Paris, partner Michael Polkinghorne was mentioned as "excellent," and partner Christopher Seppälä was described as a "leading arbitration specialist, particularly in the construction field." Stephen Bond also was noted as "a wonderful practitioner and a leader in the field." Rounding out the accolades was German partner Patricia Nacimiento in Frankfurt, highlighted as "one of Germany's recent appointees to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes," and Asia partner Kim Rooney in Hong Kong, both of whom were recognized as leaders in commercial arbitration.
