Practice Experience
Rolf Olofsson concentrates on international arbitration, ICT ventures involving project and equipment finance and general corporate representation. He has particular experience in representations involving space and satellites, and counsels government agencies and commercial enterprises in space-related ventures including treaty negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, satellite acquisition, launches, R&D, insurance contracts and telecommunications systems.
Mr. Olofsson has served as counsel or arbitrator in Swedish domestic commercial and construction arbitration and in international arbitrations under the Swedish Arbitration Act, the UNCITRAL Rules, ICC Arbitration, SCC Arbitration and AAA Arbitration, involving parties from the U.S.A., Germany, Belgium, Bielorussia, Poland, France, China, Canada, Turkey, Russia, UK and Sweden.
Mr. Olofsson has more than 25 years of experience in the legal issues raised by space, satellites and telecommunications systems. The projects he has advised on have included scientific satellites such as the Viking, Freja and SMART satellites, remote sensing satellites such as the SPOT satellite systems, geostationary satellites such as Tele-X, Marco Polo, Sirius 1-4, the IPSTAR and Hylas satellite, as well as a variety of mobile satellite projects such as Aces, the Cyprus GEM and OverHorizon projects. The representation has varied from conducting treaty negotiations to commercial work including mergers and acquisitions, procurement of satellites and launches, project financing of satellites, transponder leasing, joint ventures, partnering arrangements and dispute resolution, including arbitration.
Mr. Olofsson represents on an ongoing basis satellite manufacturers, satellite operators, financing institutions and telecom operators.
Mr. Olofsson is co-head of White & Case's Global Telecom, Media and Technology practice group. In this role, he is responsible for monitoring developments in the various markets as well as changes in the regulatory and legal regimes concerning the industry.
Mr. Olofsson's general corporate practice includes general counsel representation of midsize companies with international operations as well as significant cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining White & Case, Mr. Olofsson was with a leading Stockholm firm and served as resident partner of its New York office from 1988 until 1994. Between 1994 and 2004, Mr. Olofsson was a resident partner in the Stockholm office of White & Case.
