Practice Experience

Ruth Walters joined the Brussels office in October 2007 and advises on financial services regulation under EU and UK law.

Immediately prior to joining White and Case, Ruth worked for three years for the European Commission as a UK ‘national expert’, where she was part of the team responsible for the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, drafting and negotiating the MiFID implementing measures. She was also responsible for the Prospectus Directive and worked closely with EU regulators on the interpretation and application of this regime. Before working at the Commission, Ruth was an advisory lawyer for the UK government and worked on the implementation of the Financial Services and Markets Act, took part in the negotiation of the Prospectus Directive and worked on the Bill for the Companies Act 2006.
