Practice Experience
Ms. Hameed is a litigator who practices civil business litigation in state and federal court. She represents small businesses and large corporations in a variety of industries including telecommunications, real estate, banking, health care, bakery, and electronics manufacturing. She handles contract disputes, business torts including fraud, real property disputes and employment matters. Ms. Hameed is experienced in all aspects of civil litigation in both state and federal court from the pleading and discovery stages through trial. Her work includes strategizing and conducting discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing mediation, trial and appellate briefs, oral argument and preparing cases and witnesses for trial. Ms. Hameed has participated in several successful non-jury trials.
Ms. Hameed's experience includes:
Representation of a major wireless telecommunications carrier in defense of California consumer class action involving roaming taxes on wireless services.
Representation in federal court of a large Singaporean electronics manufacturing company seeking recovery of payment for the product it manufactured and delivered to the defendant. The defendant filed a counterclaim alleging that the product was defectively manufactured and seeking $95 million in lost profits damages. Ms. Hameed participated in all aspects of this case from preparation of the complaint through trial, including preparing key witnesses for trial and examining third party witnesses in trial. Following the bench trial, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California awarded nearly $2 million in damages to the electronics manufacturer and denied any recovery to the defendant.
Representation in federal court of a large religious and charitable organization in defense of federal and state employment discrimination claims brought by former ministers. Ms. Hameed prepared successful motions to dismiss the lawsuit.
Representation of a bank in collection actions against overdrawn customers.
Representation of a baking conglomerate in defense of employment-related claims brought by more than two dozen delivery truck drivers. Ms. Hameed prepared successful motions in limine resulting in the exclusion of the drivers' $70 million damages claim. After plaintiffs' opening statement, the court granted a motion for nonsuit, resulting in a complete victory for the Firm's client.
Representation of a medical group in financial disputes with hospital, spawning four lawsuits and five separate bench trials over the course of several years. The parties' disputes stemmed from the unraveling of contracts involving the medical group, hospital, and a health maintenance organization to provide exclusive health care to Medicare-eligible senior patients in a geographic area of Southern California. The first trial resulted in a $3.2 million win for the medical group.
