Practice Experience

Steffen specializes in corporate/M&A and real estate transactions in Russia. He has significant experience advising clients on corporate acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and restructurings. Steffen also advises on various real estate developments and financing transactions. He represents international and Russian companies on their activities in the natural resources, manufacturing, real estate and finance sectors.

His recent experience includes:

Advising RUSAL in their multi-billion dollar merger with SUAL Group and certain alumina and aluminum assets of Glencore International; the new company has become the world's largest aluminum producer;
Advising Linde Group on the acquisition of several gas businesses in Russia;
Advising Bombardier Transportation, a leader in the global rail sector, on establishing two joint ventures with Transmashholding, Russia's largest manufacturer of rolling stock and Russian Railways' main supplier;
Advising BASF on its acquisitions of Engelhard Corporation and of Degussa’s construction chemicals business, as well as on the construction of a paint production plant;
Advising Kraft Foods on the reorganization of its Russian entities;
Advising Credit Europe Bank on various real estate and construction financing projects;
Advising METRO Group on the development of wholesale and retail markets in Russia;
Advising foreign and Russian real estate developers on the acquisition and development of commercial real estate property in various Russian cities.

Prior to joining White & Case Steffen worked for another large international law firm in Moscow.
