Practice Experience

Walter Daniel concentrates on oil and gas, corporate, mergers and acquisitions and real estate law. Walter has advised on international oil and gas matters involving acquisitions and divestitures, financings, joint ventures, production sharing agreements/subsurface use contracts, engineering, procurement and construction contracts, oilfield services contracts and arbitrations.

Before joining White & Case in 2007, Walter worked as legal counsel and compliance manager at a large international oil and gas exploration and production company in Dubai, UAE and Tripoli, Libya. Walter started his career at a large US law firm, working in Moscow, Russia and Houston, Texas.

His recent experience includes:

Oil and Gas and Infrastructure

Advising an international oil and gas exploration and production company in the farm-in and subsurface use contract negotiations relating to an investment in a block in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea;
Representing a Kazakh conglomerate in the sale of equity interests in several legal entities holding subsurface use rights in Kazakhstan;
Advising an international consortium on the concession and other Kazakh law issues associated with the proposed $6 billion financing of a petrochemical complex in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan;
Conducting tenders and negotiating contracts for a 30+ million acre exploration program in Libya;
Negotiating the Libya re-entry agreement of a large international oil and gas exploration and production company after the lifting of international and US sanctions;
Negotiating joint venture contracts with international oil and gas companies relating to oil and gas exploration and production activities in Kuwait, Syria and Libya;
Advising on bidding and negotiating strategies for production sharing arrangements in Kuwait, Syria and Libya;
Conducting tenders for and negotiating gas facilities and pipeline engineering, procurement and construction contracts in Oman;
Advising on disputes relating to the termination of drilling rig contracts in Yemen and Libya; and
Advising on an international arbitration claim for the violation of an area of mutual interest agreement in Yemen.

Corporate and Real Estate

Advising a Gulf-based Islamic investment bank with respect to the structuring and financing of a large mixed-use energy hub real estate development in Aktau, Kazakhstan;
Representing a Kazakh real estate developer in the joint-venture negotiations and related divestiture of an interest in a large mixed-use real estate development in Almaty, Kazakhstan; and
Counseling a Kazakh real estate developer in its acquisition of islands and related investment in The World project in Dubai, UAE.
