The recent energy and telecom reforms in Mexico are creating opportunities for growth across industries. Prior to the reforms, the Mexican government held monopolies through state-owned entities for more than 75 years.
"These are some of the most ambitious reforms ever seen in Mexico, especially in the energy sector," said Vicente Corta Fernández, a partner in White & Case's Mexico City office.
While the revolutionary reforms are set to attract a new wave of foreign capital, investors should be mindful of ongoing debates and implementation challenges to the reform. "It's a very different environment…very dynamic," says Corta Fernández. "It's full of opportunity and also full of risk."
