Generally accepted principles and practices ("GAPP") issued recently by the International Working Group of Sovereign Wealth Funds ("IWG") call for greater public disclosure and the implementation of appropriate governance, investment and risk management frameworks by sovereign wealth funds ("SWFs"). The GAPP was promulgated to help SWF's demonstrate to home and recipient countries and the international financial markets that SWFs are properly established and managed and that their investment decisions are based on economic criteria. The IWG also believes that compliance with the GAPP will also help stabilize the international financial markets, reduce protectionist measures by recipient countries and help promote an open investment climate. Read the full Alert for full details on the GAPP and aspects of its implementation.
