Three White & Case Partners Named Tops in Global Arbitration
October 24, 2007, Global Arbitration Review
Three White & Case international arbitration partners were honored in Global Arbitration Review's "Women of Arbitration" article and adjoining ranking.
Carolyn Lamm, Abby Cohen Smutny both of the Washington DC office and Kim Rooney from the Hong Kong office were recognized for their achievements in the previously male-dominated arena of international arbitration.
New York based senior associate Ank Santens was profiled in the article alongside Smutny and Rooney. The women were asked their opinions about working as a woman in international arbitration, the significance of mentorship and a strong community within the international arbitration arena and for their take on the work-life balance.
The article mentions that in 2003 only eight women were listed as counsel on that year's major arbitrations. This year there are 24 sitting as lead or second chair on the team of advocates or counsel.
The members of the all-female top 30 list were chosen based on a combination of the research carried out for The International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration and a second survey conducted with ArbitralWomen, an all-female group that lobbies institutions and conference organizers on behalf of female speakers. The ArbitralWomen survey asked participants who they would pick as the current best role models for women.
