CLIMATE CHANGE: towards a low carbon economy
A presentation by Piotr Tulej, Head of Unit "Energy and Environment in the European Commission, Directorate-General Environment."
Commission proposals on EU legislation and policy to curb the effects of climate change are about to be adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers.
The proposed measures include:
- an improved emissions trading system (ETS) allowing for cross border trade in emission allowances;
- an emission reduction target for industries not covered by the ETS;
- legally enforceable targets for increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix; and
- new rules on carbon capture and storage and on environmental subsidies.
Come along to this session to hear where things stand and to participate in the discussion.
