Our environmental lawyers are an integral part of a larger group of White & Case lawyers from several practice areas and across many geographic regions addressing climate change issues. Our work in this area includes advice on the two project-based mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol — Joint Implementation (Jl) and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) — as implemented in Europe. In the US, we are currently advising on "cap and trade" legislation proposed at the federal level, including its implications for US-based companies and its WTO consequences. We are also advising on cap and trade schemes at the state or regional levels (e.g., RGGI). Combining the strengths of the Firm's project and energy practices with its environmental experience, we are advising clients who are now, or may in the future be, subject to proposed emission reduction requirements, including the planning and compliance by project developers, investors and lenders.
