Practice Experience
Dan Hamilton’s practice is in the field of corporate and financial restructuring, non-contentious insolvency and general bank finance.  He advises banks and other creditor groups on restructuring or recovering problem loans and on new lending as well as acting for companies in financial difficulties.  He acts for administrators, receivers and liquidators in all aspects of corporate insolvencies.

Dan has particular experience in using company voluntary arrangements, schemes of arrangements and informal arrangements in restructuring and insolvency.
Dan is listed as one of London's leading restructuring and insolvency lawyers in the 2006 publication, The International Who's Who of Insolvency & Restructuring Lawyers. 

Dan has recently been appointed as co-chair of the EHYA’s European Insolvency Reform Committee (EIRC).

Representative transactions include:

  • Acting for Mandated Lead Arrangers Barclays Bank, Goldman Sachs and ING, in the £4.35 billion financing for the proposed acquisition of Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus Group plc, by Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional. If completed, this deal would create a top five global steel group producing 24 million tonnes of steel a year along with, by 2010, approximately 50 million tonnes of annual iron ore production. The company has £800 million debt, bringing the total value of the bid to £5.7 billion (€8.4 billion);
  • Acting for all of the noteholders in connection with the US$100 million restructuring of secured debt of a Scandinavian consumer rental group;
  • Acting for the steering committee of senior and mezzanine lenders in the restructuring of this worldwide telecom
    services company;
  • Acting for Cordiant Communications, a major listed media group in its negotiations with its lenders on its two refinancings; and
  • Acting for a substantial European and US-listed shipping group in its restructuring negotiations with its banks and noteholder.
