Practice Experience
Dipen Sabharwal is a partner in the Firm's Dispute Resolution Group in London and deals primarily with international arbitration matters.

Dipen has acted as counsel in arbitrations seated in different jurisdictions including London, New York, Singapore, Stockholm, Riyadh and Tokyo. He has experience in a number of international arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SIAC, AAA and other regimes involving a wide range of legal and procedural issues.

Recent representations include:
  • Representing a major Central European oil company in an ICC arbitration relating to the acquisition of an Eastern European refinery;
  • Representing a Scandinavian technology company in a SIAC arbitration relating to the acquisition of an Indian technology company;
  • Representing a major Middle Eastern oil and gas company in an ad hoc arbitration under Sharia law concerning a gas plant debottlenecking project;
  • Representing the English subsidiary of a German engineering company in an ICC arbitration relating to licensing of technology for steel plants;
  • Representing an American investor in an arbitration, under the UNCITRAL Rules and administered by the LCIA, relating to oil and gas fields in India;
  • Advising in respect of the design and construction of nuclear power stations;
  • Representing a Colombian oil and gas company in an ICC arbitration relating to the assignment of rights in oil and gas fields in South America;
  • Representing a sovereign in an ICC arbitration relating to the enforcement of a performance guarantee issued by the sovereign;
  • Advising an investor on its rights and remedies under bilateral investment treaties and the ICSID Convention with respect to investments in a Central European state;
  • Representing a contractor in an ICC arbitration relating to the installation of a natural gas offloading system off the Gulf of Mexico; and
  • Representing a maritime company in an AAA arbitration relating to the construction of a natural gas pipeline off the coast of Massachusetts.

Dipen regularly advises on the drafting of arbitrations clauses, as well as conflict of laws and jurisdictional matters. He is involved in pro bono work and has served as counsel in the successful representation of clients in political asylum matters. Additionally, he is active in White & Case's sponsorship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which he won in 1999 and has judged since 2003.

Prior to joining the London Dispute Resolution Group, Dipen practiced with the International Arbitration Group in the Firm's New York office.
