Latin Lawyer has recognized global law firm White & Case LLP as a 2023 Pro Bono Leading Light in Mexico. The annual list recognizes the law firms that are making a noteworthy contribution to strengthening a culture of pro bono in Latin America.

One of the Firm's pro bono matters that has had a significant impact in Latin America included advising Instituto para las Mujeres en la Migración, a women's nonprofit organization, on its challenge to the US “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy. Since 2020, the lawyers in the Firm's Mexico office have spent 8,000 hours advising on pro bono matters, and the Firm has collaborated with clearinghouses Appleseed and Centro Mexicano Pro Bono and is a signatory to the Estándares Pro Bono México.

Latin Lawyer compiled the list in collaboration with the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice, drawing heavily on responses to a pro bono survey. Firms are measured in the following categories: (i) a law firm's pro bono infrastructure; (ii) recognition of lawyers' pro bono work; (iii) pro bono work done; and (iv) support of pro bono clearinghouses. Clearinghouses may also provide information on the firms that support their organization and are doing a high level of pro bono work.
