Project Finance International Names White & Case "Law Firm of the Year"

Project Finance International (PFI) magazine has named White & Case "Law Firm of the Year" for 2015 in its annual PFI Awards. The Firm will receive this and other honors at a gala awards dinner in London on February 3, 2016.

In a profile of White & Case in the PFI Yearbook 2016 in which the awards were announced, PFI wrote: "White & Case accomplished a unique feat this year by maintaining its reputation for complex, high-profile transactions while also closing the highest number of deals for any law firm in the annual Project Finance International (PFI) Law Survey."

PFI also honored three White & Case matters as "Deals of the Year":

Petrochemical Deal of the Year (Middle East and Africa): The Firm advised the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) on the development and financing for the US$8 billion expansion of a world-scale petroleum refining and petrochemicals complex in Rabigh. The US$18 billion combined facilities will form one of the largest refining and petrochemical complexes ever built.

Industrial Deal of the Year (Middle East and Africa): The Firm advised Saudi Aramco in relation to the structuring, tendering, development and financing of a world-scale industrial gas complex to be constructed in the Jazan province.

Oil Deal of the Year (Middle East and Africa): The Firm advised the lenders to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Chevron in connection with financing of more than US$1 billion to fund the drilling of new wells under a forward sale structure in Nigeria.

Other White & Case deals received honorable mentions from the PFI judges, including:

Negev Solar: White & Case advised the European Investment Bank, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Bank Leumi and Bank Hapoalim in the project financing of the US$1.1 billion thermal solar power project in the Negev desert in Israel and one of the largest financings in the region.

San Juan Wind: White & Case represented AB Svensk ExportKredit, Banco Security, DNB Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and other financial institutions and Eksport Kredit Fonden, the Danish export credit agency in the financing of a 185 MW wind power project being developed by Latin America Power in the Province of Atacama, Chile and the related 220-kV, 86 km transmission line that will connect the project to Chile's Central Interconnected System. Once complete, it will be largest wind farm in Chile with a dedicated transmission line.

Iowa Fertilizer: White & Case advised the National Bank of Abu Dhabi as sole lead arranger in the senior secured commercial bank facility to construct a US$1.8 billion nitrogen fertilizer plant located in Lee County, Iowa that will be the first world-scale fertilizer plant built in the United States in nearly 25 years.

Adana Hospital: White & Case advised the lenders, including international financial institutions International Finance Corporation, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, DEG, Proparco and Korea Development Bank, and a syndicate of commercial banks including BBVA, SMBC, HSBC, Siemens Bank and Deutsche Bank, on the €550 million financing of an integrated healthcare campus public-private partnership (PPP) in Adana, Turkey.

Kemerkoy Lignite Power: White & Case advised a syndicate of seven Turkish banks in connection with the limited recourse financing of the privatization of the Kemerkӧy thermal power plants in Turkey.
