Geneva is the headquarters of the World Trade Organization (WTO), through which the rules of the multilateral trading system are negotiated and enforced. White & Case International Trade (Geneva) is a wholly-owned affiliate of White & Case LLP, and works exclusively on WTO and other international trade issues.
White & Case International Trade (Geneva) provides advice to companies and sovereign governments on the full range of WTO disciplines, including anti-dumping, subsidies and countervailing measures, safeguards, investment, technical barriers to trade, customs, agriculture and intellectual property. It is not engaged in the general practice of law.
The team at White & Case International Trade (Geneva) comprises both lawyers seconded from White & Case LLP, as well as non-lawyer trade professionals. The lawyers have extensive experience in WTO dispute settlement, and are currently providing advocacy services in a number of active WTO disputes. They present both written and oral arguments to WTO Panels and the Appellate Body and participate in every stage of the WTO dispute settlement process, including the initial analysis, WTO consultations, panel proceedings, Appellate Body review and the implementation phase. They also provide advisory services on matters such as the WTO-consistency of national measures.
White & Case International Trade (Geneva) also advises multinational corporations and sovereign governments on commitments under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), on the legal and practical implications of the WTO accession process, and on negotiations for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). It assists companies in identifying and resolving potential WTO-related problems with specific transactions and in using WTO rules to obtain fair treatment or increase access to global markets.
The privileged location of White & Trade International Trade (Geneva) enables it to monitor closely both the regular work of the WTO as well as multilateral negotiations.
White & Case International Trade (Geneva) is fully integrated into the International Trade Practice Group of the Firm, and works closely with other White & Case lawyers in Washington, Brussels, Tokyo and elsewhere. The office is also part of the White & Case network with 2,300 lawyers in 37 offices in 25 countries.
